It's Friday, We're in Love.
Solange - I Decided Music Video
*Could be our Summer Song.
*Is our favorite new video.
*Is our favorite song right now.
*Not overly catchy, just subtly and quietly catchy= we won't get sick of it.
*We predict a nice, long summer shelf life.
*And are currently trying to learn Solange's moves in the vid. Retrosexy, vintage vixen!

We Heart Baking Soda.

Why do we heart baking soda, you ask?
Or maybe you really thinking, how do I get my
grubby little hands on one of those delicious
looking cupcake cones? Well, for starters, you can't .
It's just a picture, numskull. But you could try to
make them. Using baking soda and other stuff.
But look what else baking soda can do before
you start making huge chocolatey confectionary
confections and gobbling them down like the greedy
little goblin hobbit you are.
BAKING SODA CAN! (do all these things):
*In your dishwasher it deodorizes and cleans inside.
*As a paste it cleans smudges on wall paper and shines porcelain, jewelry and coins.
*On bee stings it lessons the pain and it’s an emollient for softer, smoother skin.
*For pets use 2 tablespoons in bathwater as shampoo. In cold weather use in powder form as a dry shampoo. Either way it adds softness and luster to their coat. Sprinkle it on carpeting to remove pet odors too.
*Make a paste to clean silver, add lemon juice to clean copper pots.
*Put it in water to make an antacid for indigestion.
*Its deodorizing ability in powder form is also legendary for your car and in smelly sneakers.
*Got a clogged drain? Mix one cup of baking soda with a cup of salt and a cup of vinegar; pour it in your drain *followed by boiling water.
*Three-parts baking soda in one-part water foams away acid build up on battery terminals.
*Trouble getting on rubber gloves? Just sprinkle in some baking soda and they’ll slip right on.

A Daydream in Hobbiton

Sometimes we want to be here, tucked away from the rest of middle-Earth and whosits whatsits everywhere. When we used to imagine ourself right smack into the world of The Shire (think the Portland area, if we're considering just the U.S., for geographic location and climate, though we don't recall much rain ever being mentioned), we saw it like this:
We were a swordsmith - the most talented swordsmith in all of middle-Earth and beyond. We lived in Bag End, next door to Bilbo, in our very own cozy nook of a hobbit-hole that smelled of the woods and wildflowers (and these days we would probably add a dash of whiskey to the scent, what with all the adventurers stopping by).
Seeing as how we were oh-so-talented and at home with our sword-making, all the best of the great adventurers would make a point of stopping by before they went out into the great wide world beyond the Farthings and Brandywine. We would shine up their weapons and mend what needed mending, all the while hearing of the adventures they were about to embark upon, and feeding them all the grilled cheeses and ding dongs (our favorite, and yes, we seamlessly meshed our world with middle-Earth's without a moment's confusion or thought of logic) that they needed to start their trip.
And then of course, one day we went with them.
And so our mind daydreamed and toiled and fought and won and discovered and led the way the whole, long, delicious time. And sometimes on some days we go back there, because it's so... much... fun.

Happy Real Old School Friday.
We're so into this right now. We love Cab Calloway and his flamboyant attire. His 'scat' style was learned via Louis The Great at Club Sunset in NYC. He was a giant personality on stage. He was known for his dedication to dapper. Offstage though, he was quiet and modest. We learned this via Jazz Profiles. Totally dig that show! Jive on all you cool cats, jive on!

Turn Up Our Symphony, Man.
Jam it out. Work it out. Play it out. Turn it up.
It's Friday, Mr. Wendal. Get down with Arrested Development. Do you not ever just miss this song? Or their 'Tennessee' song? Or that 'Everyday People' song? We find that we do. Yep, we do. That's why it's another Old School Soul Candy Friday y'all.
Love you, all that you do- and your little dog too,

Shakespeare? Nah, Kevin Arnold.

photo love
“Once upon a time there was a girl I knew, who lived across the street. Brown hair, brown eyes. When she smiled, I smiled. When she cried, I cried. Every single thing that ever happened to me that mattered, in some way had to do with her. That day Winnie and I promised each other that no matter what, that we'd always be together. It was a promise full of passion and truth and wisdom. It was the kind of promise that can only come from the hearts of the very young.”
-Kevin Arnold, The Wonder Years
Like, woah. Does it get any more romantic than Winnie and Kevin??? Sigh.

Electronic uh, Augmentation.
This vid is IT y'all! The wardrobe! The keyboard! The swingin' 70's sex appeal! Snoop is right on da money. He's using the vokator, creating that very same vocal effect 'T Pain' is famous for (yeah, we just learned all about this on NPR of all places) and is sounds just a trifle like another little band we love to love- namely Daft Punk) whom has been using this technique since the early 90's.
We totally dig dig dig. And are so excited about the direction music right now. Digital digital get down with us. There is so much good shiz out there!
P.S. We think Dolemite probably woulda dug this vid too.

They Just Don't Understand.

photo love
Oh, high school.
You pushed the limits on curfew. Made out with your boyfriend in the backseat. Walked in past the rents, for the Goodnight/Let-Us-Smell-Your-Breath-Check. One night, you even walked past Dad, sans shirt. Ragin' party Dad, you wanted to say. But instead you just stumble-stepped up the beige-carpeted stairs. Past the beige-painted walls. Grabbed the Doritos. Jumped into bed, and promptly got The Spins.
Or maybe you were a good kid. A star mathathlete or the FBLA prez. A National Merit Scholar, or National Honor Society Veep. Betcha still got caught once or twice sifting through your stash. Sortin' out your um, collection. Out of nowhere Dad appeared right behind you! What are you doing up here (you screamed). But what you wanted to say was wanna hit that shit with me?
Nowadays, you cut 'em some slack. You find them pretty hilarious and/or kinda right about some things (nothing good happens after midnight/Auntie Joan is a little off her rocker). These Baby Boomer creatures amuse you. They use AOL, still. Quote Reagan. Get all dreamy-eyed over James Taylor, still. Wear Izod polos like they are going outta style. Which they are. And they were. For the last ten years or so. These boomies wear their Ray-Bans religiously (not even closely related to their recent surge in popularity). Ma makes you carrot cake every single year for your birthday. Because she knows it was your favorite. When you were ten. But you act like it still is. You love 'em. You tell your dad you think your mom is The Shit. He tells you later she asked if being The Shit was good or bad. Precisely.
There is no real point or quirky ending to this post. Call Your Parents, Tell Them You Love Them Friday? They kept ya around and let ya boomerang back home. Maybe they do understand something, Jazzy Jeff.

Happy Birthday, Darling.

Happy Birthday, Marie Antoinette.
You would have been 255 today.
Though you live and reign in our heart, mind, daily Marie- fetish and somewhat delusional bordering on obsession/fascination. We love you true. We love your daring sensibility, your disconcerted unapologetic attitude, and overall mischief.
All we wanna be is a Modern Day Marie.

Good morning, John.

JL: Good morning, Yoko.
YO: What do you want to do today, John?
JL: Oh Yoko, it doesn't matter baby, my love will turn you on.
YO: No seriously, John. I think your friends are all starting to hate me.
JL: No way babe. You could never split us up. In the middle of the bath I call your name.
YO: John!! I am an artistically misunderstood avant garde phenom!
JL: Oh Yoko, my love will turn you on, relax you Dada lovin' anti-commercialist.
YO: I am an artistic radical John! Let's record some really weird space screamer shit together.
JL: Oh Yoko, oh Yoko, oh Yoko, oh Yoko. You are one rad chick. Let's have a super trippy Friday.

Help Wanted.

Fill in the bubble for us, will ya? What should it say? (personally, we are leaning toward 'We love you, Heath Ledger'). Get wacky. Chew some tobacky. Come on, get freaky- it's Friday y'all!
We're feelin' a zip in our bips and some dance in our pants. We're ready for a splashy wedding weekend and see off a friend in her matrimonous song and dance.
