This Is About.

It's a digital age, man. So to you we present our virtual talk show of Nonsense: The Silly. The Beautiful. The True. In our own words or those quoted by others. With our own art or that created by others. We will laugh. We will smile. We will entertain you all the while. So grab a drink, come in and let's chat. We'd like to meet you, your mama, and your hot cousin Fred.

We're Famous

Bowler Hat art party. Chicago. We whiskied 'round the room, taking in the pretty pieces and the strange artists and the fabulosity DJ duo and even donned a bowler hat for the occasion.

We chatted up Mr. Bizarro in the top pic with our sista and marveled at the different sorts that perused the party rounds in this here town. Us in flip-flops and rained-on hair, them in sparkly gowns and black ties.

What a night, what a town. We think we'll always feel more comfortable with movie nights and good friends, but what the hey. It's good to test your comfort zone, eh, moonpies?

Ditty for a Monday

And here we are now. Sometimes on a craptastic day the only thing that makes us feel better is a Diet Coke. Or a bag of chips. Or a pretty poem.

But usually just the right ditty can do the trick.

We're growing up. We're living. We're learning. We're doing all the stuff that makes up cliches and movie climaxes and purple passages in chick lit novels and reality TV.

Soak it in, soak it in. This is us.

Sweet Nothings

We want to make these for all our dearies and all our kinda-sortas and all our strangers. We want to toss them and mail them and give them and leave them in strange public places for people to find and unwrap and have a giggle.

But we want to make them happy thoughts. Love thoughts and funny thoughts and obsessively joyous thoughts that stick with you through the depths of your worst days. Because what is the use of making something if there is no one to enjoy it?

Err, well lookie what we have here. We have us going against the grain of Sir Vonnegut's very thoughts, his very core of ideas that he lectured and sang and loved about for all those years of his life. Vonnegut said we should make art for art's sake. He said we should create for the act of creating, and after we've created we should destroy what we've blossomed up without telling a world-wide soul about it. Because that is what creating is about.

But damn, how could we not share the gem below, compliments of our girl over at Oh Happy Day?

Ali Hill, via Oh Happy Day

Oh well. Maybe we'll ruminate on Kurt's teachings another day, with another dollar. But this one's on making us some pretty-ditty thoughts and asking Kinko's to print 'em off on big old sheets for our friends and our lovers and our strangers, all the world over.

What are you going to create today?

100 Days, 100 Nights.

Remember the last time your toes curled? Because of something other than er, well you know. Err, well at least we hope you know. Um, and if you don't know, um, find yourself a luva honey. Fast.

Anyho.

Do you have an old soul?

Do you feel jazzy love straight down to your toes and up through your heart straight up in yo head?

Do you ever feel like saying, Amy darling (or) Christina darling, what you're doing is nice. Really nice. It is. It's throaty. Campbell's Soup Hearty. And good soul-shaking shit, at times. It truly is. Mad props to you, mad props to you. Fo realzy tho. Not hatin' on a sista one bit. But, girls. Girls. Girls. What about singing like your life depends on it. Like he broke your heart just seconds ago. And ran off to Jamaica with your best girl, wearin' flip-flops. And they took your cute flopsy teacup poodle with 'em too. What about singin' like you will burst into flames if the love of your life isn't requitted. Or dancin' like you don't give a funkin' funk who ain't down with your funk. You just gotta dance the tune right outta your legs. And your hips. And your soul. And you have to, or you might just-die.

Then listen to Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings. Try this album and groove with us people!

Comin' up roses, dahling.

photo courtesy of our friend Patrashbag.

Oh, honey. We have never wished to be more than a fly on the wall at the home of any of the Osbournes. Zip in. Zip out. Spy on things through our compound eyes. Maybe take a little fly poo, and then shoo.

But this photo makes us think 'on second thought, maybe Kelly Osbourne should be our new best friend.' Toting a pretty buncha roses and a pug wearing a shirt? Posh fur trimmed coat and pretty red lips? Lord of the flies! Supa dupa fly, Mizz Ozzyb.

Ohhh, Life!

photo love

Some days we feel like all we ever do is worry what other people are thinking. 'Is she mad at us?' 'Are they happy?' 'Are we acting like a nutjob?' It's exhausting, and frankly m'dears, it's not doing anything for our figures or our faces. Who wants to be a sad-sap walking around all Eeyore-poor me and Eeyore-poorer me? Not us (well, except for the pink bow. tres kitschy). Alas, there's a reason little Eeyore was concocted... adulthood. Come on: every lad and lass can relate to that little gray egomaniac in some ways on some days. But there's always a choice. You can wake up and go, 'Today I'm going to think only of myself and how hard my life is,' or you can wake up whistling zippity-do-da out of your asshole. Because let's be honest; our lives are not that hard and we must live for ourselves, not for others.

All this was brought home to our deary minds this morning, when our lovely Weenie-poodle said to us,

"But in reality guilt is a waste of time. It never makes us feel any better, only worse. In my opinion…guilt and the word “should” are somewhat pointless…get rid of them!"

Oh deary-dear... so true and well-said and cheers to us and you and frozen margaritas on a Tuesday! Now go frolick in the autumn midst, and don't pay any mind to those phone calls you have to make... Just smile and wink and tip your drink back.

1996 was a good year.

Vintage yearbook pic from F & J's Definitive Years. At the time, our convos went kinda like this:

F: What up, bitch.
J: What up, bitch.
F: What's new with you? Cool lipstick.
J: Yeah. Um, nothing. Just chillin' like a bitch, pimpin' like a ho. You?
F: Cool, cool. Same.
J: You should really wax your eyebrows.
F: Yeah, but I won't learn people actually do that until years later. Let's go to the cafeteria.
J: Great idea, I'm dying for a Ho Ho. I fuckin' love cupcakes, man.
F: Yeah, I could use a weener dog. Get it, weener? Weener!
F & J: Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Help Wanted.

Fill in the bubble for us, will ya? What should it say? (personally, we are leaning toward 'We love you, Heath Ledger'). Get wacky. Chew some tobacky. Come on, get freaky- it's Friday y'all!
We're feelin' a zip in our bips and some dance in our pants. We're ready for a splashy wedding weekend and see off a friend in her matrimonous song and dance.

Hot Diggity-Doug

photo love

We here at the Frances and Judy Show love hot dogs. 'No secret there,' you might lovingly chuckle to yourself. 'They sure do,' you may snort out loud. But any way you grill it, we heart hot dogs and we don't settle for anything less than the juiciest (unless it's 3a.m. and we're really jonesin').
*
Enter Hot Doug's. This dandy Chicago establishment not only serves one helluva Chicago-Style, it also creates some of the most creative yet still utterly blissful hot dog concoctions EVER. Plus, our buddy Doug uses the freshest of fresh ingredients and smiles when he serves us. (*sigh* starry eyes hot dog love *sigh*).
*
Some of the deliciously yummy-sounding specials on el menu:
1. Mexican Chorizo with Jalapeño Mayonnaise and Hanañero-Jack Cheese
2. Roasted Pepper and Garlic Chicken Sausage with Roasted Garlic Dijonnaise and Goat-Cheese Stuffed Green Olives
3. Spinach and Feta Chicken Sausage with Tapenade Aioli and Feta Cheese

Clearly we like the heavy, cheese & sauce-laden ones. But whatever blows your hair back, Doug will have it and Doug will serve it up fresh as a spring rose.

We are, indeed, smitten. And so you should as well. Hit it up, and let us know of some other fab hot diggity sources in Chicago and the wide world beyond.
