Ahh, the sweet rediscovery of some old-school chick love. Miz Latifah's UNITY was sampled on NPR (ha! er, what?) this lovely morn', and as we Batiste'd our hair, we fell into a sweet reminisce of days yonder, filled with the Queen herself, Salt 'n Pepa, TLC (which also stands for The Leaky Cauldron, but we digress), and, for a week in fifth grade, SWL (Sistas With Love. Check it). Our pop/hip-hop girls made us feel powerful, sassy and tough. They let us step out of our pale, small-town world of koolats, turtlenecks and holding hands with boys, and into the multi-colored baggy pants era of sex, female sass and exaggerated hand motions.
Thanks, Queen. You helped us think outside the box of corn we lived in.
